Pitman-Closeness of Preliminary Test and Some Classical Estimators Based on Records from Two-Parameter Exponential Distribution

In this paper, we study the performance of estimators of parametersof two-parameter exponential distribution based on upper records. The generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) test was used to generate preliminary test estimator (PTE) for both parameters. We have compared the proposed estimator with maximum likelihood (ML) and unbiased estimators (UE) under mean-squared error (MSE) and Pitman me...

On Pitman Closeness of Pitman Estimators

Pitman estimators of location are unbiased, translation-equivariant and possess some optimality properties under quadratic loss. Similar optimality properties of Pitman estimators are studied with respect to the measure of Pitman closeness of estimators.

Using different Pitman-closeness techniques for the linear combination of multivariate forecasts

We specify the Pitman-closeness criterion for the evaluation of multivariate forecasts in three categories. This is done closely to the definition of covariance adjustment techniques analysed in other articles. We also apply the Pitman-closeness techniques to an example dealing with German economic data.

On the Shrinkage Estimation of Variance and Pitman Closeness Criterion for Large Samples

For a large class of distributions and large samples, it is shown that estimates of the variance σ2 and of the standard deviation σ are more often Pitman closer to their target than the corresponding shrinkage estimates which improve the mean squared error. Our results indicate that Pitman closeness criterion, despite its controversial nature, should be regarded as a useful and complementary to...

Pitman-closeness and the linear combination of multivariate forecasts

We use the Pitman-closeness criterion to evaluate the performance of multivariate forecasting methods and we also calculate optimal matrices of weights for the linear combination of multivariate forecasts. These weights are identical with the optimal weights under the matrix-MSE criterion.
